These were the words of one Ohio Valley Health Center patient after being treated for the first time in her life for uncontrolled diabetes. And this same sentiment is echoed every day by the men and women who come to us because they have no other route to affordable health care.
The Ohio Valley Health Center (OVHC) is a 501c3, community-based nonprofit organization. Our mission statement is: “to provide free high-quality health care to the medically uninsured and underinsured individuals of the Ohio Valley regardless of their ability to pay”. Since our doors opened in 2006, OVHC has served over 4,000 individual patients of the Ohio Valley providing over 23,000 medical visits all at no cost to the patient. Our goal is always “to serve those in need with both dignity and respect.”
For some of our patients, their hope is for medication to prevent another heart attack. For other patients, their hope is to return to good health so that they can be better parents or go back to full-time employment. Finally, for others, their hope is simply to be able to breathe without a struggle, get through the day without constant pain, or learn to live a healthier life through diabetic education. Through the help of our many donors and volunteers, Ohio Valley Health Center is fulfilling these kinds of hopes – big and small – every day for hurting people in our community who need health care.
